Runewords vary on their suitability for different classes and specs, as well as utility for the various Mercenaries. For a more DPS-focused Mercenary, Treachery is often recommended as an option. This is the armor you want your Mercenary to wear if you want them to be super-tanky. It's one of the cheaper BiS items in game. Out of the four required Runes, only the highest rune, Lo, requires farming in Hell to obtain, although you can rarely get it farming Nightmare Secret Cows. Still, this armor has so much going for it that you really have to dig for bad things to say about it. The 25% Faster Cast Rate is okay for some classes, but most of the classes who would be most interested in Fortitude won't be using that as a major breakpoint. The only possible weakness is that the 25-30% All Resists are good but not great for endgame. There's nothing flashy about Fortitude, which is the worst thing you can say about it. There are many reasons for this: the runes are not difficult to obtain, possible base items are plentiful, and the defense on this armor is nearly unmatched. 20% Chance To Cast Level 15 Chilling Armor when Struckįortitude is not only a nearly-ubiquitous recommendation for Mercenary armor, it's also found in many Best in Slot (BiS) armor recommendations for several melee DPS builds.
